Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Rural Population towards COVID 19 Control Measures

Abstract

Official and international health organizations faced a huge tension in fighting COVID 19 pandemic. One method to control COVID 19 is adherence to strict precautions against COVID 19 and raising knowledge and positive attitude about these precautions. Aim of the study: Assess knowledge, attitude towards COVID 19 disease and its impacts on practices and control of COVID 19. Methods: Cross sectional study involving 294 persons from primary health care units in Ismailia governorate, Egypt. Their socio-demographic data were analyzed and their knowledge, attitude, and practices of preventive measures in face of COVID 19 were assessed by 40 questions: Knowledge 24 questions with 24 degrees, attitude 6 questions with score of 5 for each question and total 30 degrees, practice 10 questions with 5 points for each one and total 50 degrees. Data analyzed by SPSS4 program Results: satisfied knowledge of participants was 82.5%, positive attitude 77.9% and good practices were 71.67%.Those with age > 40 years had better knowledge (p =.002). Variables with lower chance of COVD infection (OR<1) was education (OR =0.92), not working (OR= 0.52), satisfactory knowledge (OR= 0.2) and good practice (OR=0.84).By regression analysis married, presence of previous COVID cases within the family were independent predictors for infection while satisfactory knowledge was an independent protective variable (p=0.34). Conclusion: Increase health awareness about corona and importance of vaccines and good preventive practices are urgently needed to tackle COVID 19 and prevent its transmission especially between families.
